Food Testing Results from Mom's Across America
100% of Fast-Food Samples Tested Positive for Heavy Metals, Lead, and Cadmium
I have been teaching cooking classes with an emphasis on organic foods for 26 years. It is so important to eat organic foods for your health. When I started teaching, I had to explain what organic foods meant. Now the majority of people know what organic foods are and that we should be eating them. I also taught that if you ate meat, that the meat would have the growth hormones and antibiotics in the flesh because they were given these medicines (chemicals) when they were being raised. And now there had been food testing done by Mom’s Across America on Fast Food that proves just what I have been emphasizing in my teaching for years.
Note: I am vegan and all my recipes are vegan. I know that most Fast-Food places serve non vegan food. I do not eat food from any of the fast-food places mentioned in the Mom’s Across America testing. A majority of people on the planet do eat these foods. I feel it is important to know the facts about all food, weather you choose to eat it or not.
Breaking news:
Moms Across America, an educational nonprofit, is announcing the heavy metal test results from the top twenty most popular fast-food restaurants. The 42 samples were tested for arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury. 100% of the samples, which were purchased at 21 different locations nationwide, contained alarming levels of cadmium and lead.
Who is Zen Honeycut and what is Mom’s Across America you ask? And why I think it is very important that you know about her and her organization.
Zen Honeycutt is the Founding Executive Director of Moms Across America, a non-profit National Coalition of Unstoppable Moms. With the motto "Empowered Moms, Healthy Kids " Moms Across America has grown rapidly, over 600 leaders have created nearly 1000 community events in all 50 states in the past 5 years. Moms Across America empowers and amplifies the voice of the mom locally and nationally to create healthy communities by raising awareness about GMOs and related pesticides in our food. Zen has been featured on major mainstream news stations and documentaries. She is an international speaker, and author of Unstoppable: Transforming Sickness and Struggle into Triumph, Empowerment and a Celebration of Community. Zen Honeycutt is a former Consumer representative to the California Organic Products Advisory Committee.
Quote from Zen: “The link between GMOs and numerous children’s health issues, both personal experiences and research from Robyn O'Brien's TEDx talk and Jeffrey M. Smith’s “Genetic Roulette”, along with the love for my children, inspired me to create Moms Across America- a national coalition of unstoppable Moms. Our goal is to empower millions to educate themselves about GMOs, get them labeled and offer GMO-free and organic solutions. In partnership with LabelGMOs.org, fellow OC Mom of three boys, Kathleen Hallal, and with sponsors such as NYR Organic, Dr. Bronner, Organic Valley, Nutivia, Nature’s Path and hundreds of moms across America, our goal is to transform the food industry and the future of America. Our motto is “Empowered Moms, Healthy Kids”.
100% of the fast food samples tested contained alarming levels of cadmium. The levels of cadmium were between 74%-1158% higher than what the EPA allows in drinking water.
Cadmium is highly carcinogenic and can cause toxic reactions even at low levels.
In-and-Out french fries had 1,158% higher levels of cadmium than what the EPA allows in drinking water.
Jack-in-the-Box french fries had 970% higher levels of cadmium than what the EPA allows in drinking water.
100% of the 42 fast food samples tested had trace amounts or higher of lead.
Even low levels of lead in blood have been shown to negatively affect a child’s intelligence, ability to pay attention, and academic achievement.
A Sonic Drive-in cheeseburger had the highest amount of lead, 912% higher than what the EPA allows in drinking water.
Arsenic was also detected in 17% of the fast-food samples.
The highest level of arsenic was found in Panda Express’s orange chicken and white rice at 362% higher than EPA levels allowed in drinking water.
On Oct. 17th Zen and her team were at a Congressional Hearing sharing the results along with other important impacts of harmful food on our health and the health of our children. In particular, Organic, regenerative and biodynamic farmer, Mark Doublah gave an emotional and highly educational talk about how profitable and doable it is to have an organic farm. Doublah website:

Every Monday evening, Zen hosts a Zoom call open to all who are interested called Mom’s Connect Call. She shared the latest news about all things organic. Plus she has interesting and knowledgeable guest on the call. On Monday, Oct. 23, Zen talked about the testing of the food, the results and what was found. You can watch it here:

I have been the guest speaker on three Mom’s Connect Calls this year presenting about the ancient philosophy of the energy of food, based in Oriental medicine following the Five Transformations of Energy. You can watch my last presentation on Oct. 16 about fall, metal energy foods. You can watch it here:

The Monday evening Mom’s Connect Call also has the Neighborhood Food Network. (The first 30 minutes of the call is focused on health issues and food, the second 30 minutes is focused on gardening.) This program, which we invite you to initiate on your block, will create a parallel food system, one street at a time. We support neighbors to connect and empower each other to grow their food, support local small farmers, get prepared in case of times of crisis, and be independent of the current toxic food system. Our Founding Executive Director, Zen Honeycutt, is a mother, author, speaker, gardener, and steward of 40+ animals at a small farm in North Carolina. The Neighborhood Food Network program coordinator, Anne Temple, is a graphic designer, speaker, blogger, and gardener of a 1/4 acre urban backyard garden in Wisconsin. Our other team members are in California, Florida, South Carolina, Washington, etc.
Zen Honeycut was on Children’s Health Defense Good Morning Show, Sat. Oct. 28. Host was Kelly Ryerson with other guests, Michelle Perro M.D. and organic farmer, Mark Doudlah. (These are the people who testified in the hearing.)
