Did you know there is no such thing as ‘the flu season’? This sick season that many are fearful of, comes right after many kids (and adults) ingest a huge amount of sugary candy. Do you think that has something to do with a large number of people becoming sick? Of course it does.
Quote from my new cookbook, Simply Health Scrumptious Desserts: “White sugar is not a food, it is a chemical. It reacts in the same neuroreceptors in the brain as cocaine, that is how addictive this chemical is to you. When ingested, it affects the brain first, giving a false energy lift that eventually lets you down even lower than when you started. Causing blood sugar imbalances. It depletes your adrenal, kidney function, leaving you feeling exhausted. White sugar also interferes with mineral absorption, such as iron and B vitamins. And it drains away calcium, overloading the body with acid ash residues that are responsible for much of the suffering of joints and limbs in arthritic conditions. White sugar also suppresses the immune system, by inhibiting the release of hormones, making your body vulnerable to get sick or cause diseases. It also lowers disease control, a proven fact for those who suffer with diabetes and hypoglycemia and not becoming known as well for people who have high triglycerides and high blood pressure.”
My advise to those who are just starting their journey to eating healthy: First step is to eat brown rice. Second step: STOP EATING SUGAR!
Yes, white sugar is that bad for you.
When it comes to celebrating Halloween, I am often asked, what should I hand out to the kids if I do not want to give the the unhealthy, sugary treats? I can only makes suggestions based on what I have given out in the past. I go to the dollar store and buy small packages of various things. Such as: pencils, pens, erasers, little toys, bouncy balls, glow sticks, and stickers. One year I handed out some play jewelry, necklaces and bracelets. Both the girls and boys thought that was really neat. Now I know what you are thinking, the kids will be disappointed that they do not get candy. That has not been my experience. The kids who come to my door usually get very excited to see the various things I have for them to choose from. The most popular items have been: bouncy balls, erasers shaped like animals, toy jewelry, stickers and yes, even the pencils go over good with the kids.
I went to the dollar store today to get the things I will pass out for Halloween. It was fun to look through the small toys, stickers and erasers. I ended up buying: toy bats, little toy animals (dogs and cats), little toy dinosaurs, erasers in the shape of animals, various colored pumpkin stickers, little Halloween stamps (I think the kids are really gonna like those), necklaces, and pencils.
I especially like the little animals, the black cats being my favorite.
I know people will say, ‘oh let the kids have fun, let them eat the candy.’ Well that is the parents choice as to what they allow their kids to eat. But I hope more and more people will decided to hand out different things for the kids to enjoy, and not hand out the sugary candy that can lead to them becoming sick. Many do not understand the link between sugar consumption and health issues. I have had personal experience with how sugar affects you with my battle overcoming eczema. I tell my Personal Story Overcoming Eczema on my You Tube Channel.
Happy Halloween!

On Halloween I try to leave my house dark and quiet for several hours so it will seem like noone is home. I won't give junk food to kids and I feel worried that they'd play tricks on me if I gave them something heathy.
